Team Falken’s Matt Field Finishes Third For Round 4 Of The Formula Drift Championship At New Track In Pennsylvania

ERIE, PA – Running at another new venue – “The Borderlands” – for the 2021 Formula Drift Championship, Team Falken’s Matt Field took the third step on the Round 4 podium at Lake Erie Speedway, July 10, maintaining his lead in this year’s Driver’s Championship.

Qualifying fourth, Field was supported by Falken teammates Aurimas “Odi” Bakchis in 6th and Daijiro “Dai” Yoshihara in 29th. Unfortunately, Team Falken veteran Justin Pawlak was unable to compete Saturday due to a mechanical issue.

Field was competitive through the Final 4 where he took home third place on his Azenis RT615K+ tires, though it was not without difficulties.

“My car broke every round of practice, and my crew put it back together,” Field told the full house of spectators. “And then in the final four battle tonight, it broke again. But despite the troubles, we could not have done any of this without the support of the fans. I was so surprised to see the turnout. People made the trek from Detroit, from New York; six, seven hours away to see us. That’s what made this night special. Every time I pulled into the stadium, I looked out to the crowd and they are what helped get me to third place tonight. I have to thank the fans, my crew and Falken Tires for this and I certainly hope we’ll be back to Erie.”

“It was indeed a tough night for Falken Tires,” admitted Steve Wong, Falken’s Supervisor, Passenger Car Motorsports and Events. “But Matt continued to show his strength when he needed to and earned a top-three finish, which was enough to uphold his lead in the Driver’s Championship.

“Running at a new venue is always great because it gives us a chance to show a new audience what Formula Drift is about; how great the action is – how close it is, and it also allows us to introduce the Falken brand to new customers,” Wong continued. “Overall, we were really pleased at the number of people who attended. There were lots of locals, but the number of fans who drove in from other states was great. Plus, having an event so close to our Buffalo manufacturing plant provided a great opportunity to host some of our very own employees in the Falken VIP section. This all really shows how popular drifting is among motorsports fans and Falken is so proud to be a part of it.”

Round 5 is set in three weeks across the country in Monroe, Washington, for the “Throwdown” at Evergreen Speedway on July 30-31.
