Falken Tires Storms Through Midwest Off-Road Events With 1st & 3rd At ULTRA4 and 2nd In Amsoil Champ Series
SOUTH PITTSBURG, TN / CRANDON, WI – It was a triple-podium weekend for Team Falken. At the ULTRA4 “Tear Down in Tennessee” Jesse Oliver secured first place in the 4500 Class while Jon Schaefer took third in the 4600 Class. Meanwhile, further up north in Crandon, Wisconsin, Cole Mamer brought home second in Pro-Lite in Round 4 of the Amsoil Championship Off-Road series.
Oliver qualified his Oliver Racing machine third, and even after catching a rock on the first lap that caused mechanical issues, he never slowed down. He was the only one to complete all five laps in the race and took his vehicle, and his Falken Wildpeak M/T tires, straight to the podium.
In the 4600 Class, Schaefer, running the RPM Extreme Jeep, set pole in qualifying. The course proved to be extremely rough which forced Schaefer and his crew to replace control arm bolts twice during the race, but he kept sprinting toward the finish. With sufficient traction from his Falken Wildpeak M/T tires, Schaefer passed several others in his class to gain the third podium spot.
“What an amazing effort from my team,” Schaefer declared. “I mean, I didn’t think I had a chance, and they came through, kept my Jeep running and I grabbed third. It was a good run.”
Oliver agreed. “Both Jon and I had mechanical issues we overcame,” he said. “The situation only pushed me further toward the victory line. I knew I had a good feeling about this race.”
Nine hundred miles north, veteran Team Falken driver Cole Mamer, already experiencing a strong year, returned to Crandon International Raceway, “the world’s most iconic off-road racetrack,” for the Forest County Potawatomi Brush Run. Amsoil Championship Off-Road hosted rounds 3 and 4 at the track, though Mamer had a tough first run when he rolled his Falken-liveried Pro-Lite truck which caused major mechanical and body damage. He and his crew worked late into the night to make repairs and were able to bring the truck to the start line for Round 4 the next day.
Starting 12th, Mamer was on a mission, passing several trucks by the time he got to the first corner. Sitting in fifth, he waited for the right moment to move up in the field. With four laps left, he was in third, and with two remaining, he had grabbed second, pushing the leader.
“That was one of my biggest comebacks,” Mamer said. “My crew just worked so hard fixing everything to make the Pro-Lite entry a solid one, and with my Falken Wildpeak A/T3W tires just grabbing the dirt, I had a strong run and was just maybe another lap from a win. But after what we went through, I’ll take this second.”
“Once again, what incredible efforts performed by all of our Team Falken drivers this weekend,” stated Douglas Fletcher, Falken’s Supervisor, Light Truck and Off-Road Events. “Adversity is only a word to these guys and their crews. Their solid finishes prove that with determination and the right equipment, like our Wildpeaks, you can turn any position into a podium.”
The next round of the Amsoil Championship Off-Road Series is set for July 9-10 at ERX Motor Park in Elk River, MN, while the ULTRA4 Racing Series moves to Sturgis, SD, for a West and North Series joint race on August 6th.
